We use an evidence-based approach that is rooted in academic science – from research of multiple Nobel Prize winners in the areas of economics and finance.

Our Investment Philosophy

We use low-cost investments with broad diversification and access to areas of higher expected return. We firmly believe this philosophy gives our clients the best chance at a successful investment experience.

Our approach differs from most of the financial industry that still follows the conventional approach to asset management. The conventional approach usually attempts to time the market and predict which investments and sectors will outperform. As our research indicates, over time this philosophy most often results in higher costs and lower performance.

Your investments are held by our third-party custodian TD Ameritrade. We partner with TD for their award-winning technology and industry leading security features. Our clients have peace of mind that their assets are held by one of the largest and most respected custodians in the country.

Through our many years of experience providing financial planning for clients, we’ve created a thorough discovery process.

Our Process

Our first priority is to get to know our clients on a personal level. You will share your financial goals and concerns with us, which we help us get a better understanding of your situation. Typically, there will be 2-3 initial meetings to develop and discuss your plans and the best path forward. Once the initial planning has been completed, we like to meet with our clients 2-3 times per year so we can make any necessary adjustments and update you on your progress. We are also always available for phone calls or video conferences.

Let’s Get Organized
Week 1: The initial meeting gives you the chance to tell us about you and your family – and the things that are most important to you. We will ask questions about your goals and concerns and get a good understanding of your current situation. You will also have the chance to learn more about our firm and the process we use to help people organize their finances and feel secure about the future.

Planning and Possibilities
Week 2: At this meeting, you will get a clear and easy way to get a picture of your current situation and the framework and options for the best path forward.

Outline of Responsibilities and Commitment

Week 3: During this meeting, you decide if our firm is the right fit for you and your family. If we decide to move forward, we will reiterate that we are held to a fiduciary standard and your best interest is always our priority. We will discuss your path forward, answer any questions you have, and prioritize our next steps.

60 Day Follow Up Meeting
Week 11: We are dedicated to making sure your account statements and online access are easy to use and understand. Our goal is to make your financial lives organized and coordinated so you can free up time and energy to focus on other areas of your life.

Regular Progress and Planning

Every 90 days: You will help us set a schedule of regular meetings at intervals that are comfortable and convenient for you. During these meetings, we will listen to any updates or changes in your life and determine if we need to adjust your planning. We will inform you of your overall progress and address any questions or concerns you may have. We will also coordinate with other tax, estate, and risk management professionals to ensure your goals are being addressed from a comprehensive viewpoint.

Our simple and transparent fee structure is set up to be in our clients’ best interests.

Our Compensation

Our fee is calculated as a percentage of the assets we manage for you and is deducted on a quarterly basis from your account. The fee covers the investment management, ongoing meetings and advice. In some cases, we will charge a flat fee to develop a comprehensive financial plan in the first year of our relationship.

We do not receive any additional compensation for managing your investments. Many financial firms have revenue sharing agreements, proprietary products, and use investments with higher expenses that “kick back” a portion of these proceeds to the advisors that promote them. We feel strongly that these arrangements are not in the client’s best interest as they detract from your returns and are not transparent. Therefore, our asset management fee is the only way we are compensated for managing your investments.

We do provide advice regarding insurance, such as life, disability, and long term care insurance. We can help our clients implement this advice when appropriate and we have access to the vast majority of insurance carriers. We will receive a fee from the insurance company when helping you attain a particular insurance coverage.

We want you to have the right set of tools and information to be well-informed about your financial situation.

Sharing Investment Information with Clients

You will have the option to receive a paper or electronic statement from TD Ameritrade on a monthly basis. You will also be able to access your accounts online at any time. Stone Pine Financial will also send you a more detailed performance report on a quarterly basis.

We also recommend that our clients take advantage of some free and easy-to-use tools to help you stay on top of your finances and investments on a regular basis.

We always work in the best interest of our valued clients.

Our Promise

The Fiduciary Standard states that we will always act in the best interest of our clients and that we will always put our client’s priorities above our own. We are held to the Fiduciary Standard as part of the Code of Ethics as CFP® practitioners. Additionally, as Investment Advisors (RIA) we are also held to this standard. The majority of advisors in the workforce follow a Suitability Standard, which is far less stringent and, in our opinion, results in a conflict of interest with the client.
